How to Paint Trim (Baseboards, Door & Window Casings)
Painting can be fun or meticulously daunting but I'm here to show you how to paint trim like the pro's . If this is a task you definitely need to be done but low on funds to hire out , here I'll show you the way .So today I am excited to share my Tips on how to paint trim and baseboards flawlessly!
Gather your supplies & Materials
Paint brush ,whizz roller, painters or frog tape and of course paint . When painting trim I recommend a latex semi gloss enamel, This is in evident that your current trim has been painted with a latex paint. If your current finish is oil based, It'll be best to just stick with an oil based product Rather than having the extra hassle of extra prep and priming . not sure? refer to this article recently wrote . First Step
You want to lay down plastic and or canvas drop clothes for floor protection. there's nothing more aggravating in starting the project off on the wrong foot with spilled paint or splatters on your floors . If you aren't adept at painting you want to tape off the top of the baseboard where it meets the wall for a nice crisps line. The same goes for door and window casings but this will be the sides and or top whichever is adjacent to the wall.
Next wipe down & Scuff sand trim
You want to dust off the base get any dust, dirt, or loose substances Then you wanna sand with 220 grit sand paper to rough up the current finish to make the next finish adhere properly. Finally you will wipe them down with a mild dish detergent and water, or you can go to your hardware store and get a bottle of tsp. Let dry for 30 mins and get ready to paint
After the prep work is finished ,the trim is ready for paint.Pour thoroughly mixed paint into a clean cut cup or tray Dip no more than an inch of the angled paint brush into the paint and wipe away excess. Use short stokes to cover a few feet of the trim.
Next, smooth the section of freshly painted trim with one long stroke. Continue this technique with another section until all trim is painted.Once you’ve mastered how to paint trim and successfully completed your painting job, remove the painter’s tape by carefully.
You want to remove the tape from the wall at 45-degree angle while the paint is still wet. Prep work is a crucial part of painting trim and it’s important to have quality tools and the right materials.
Now you saved yourself hundreds of dollars and have beautifully painted baseboards and trim to be proud of.
