A lot of times it can be as simple as a stuck flapper chain . This will not let the Flapper itself close up after while the tank is filling hence continually running . To fix that just move the chain where it can work freely and you should be good to go .

Flapper Needs To Be Replaced

When a flapper gets too old , they don't seal the way they should . Water will constantly run through. Changing a Flapper is very easy . You can buy the kit rather inexpensively at any local hardware store Just unhook the chain and pins on the side of the overflow tube then put on the new opposite of how you took the old one off. Make sure you Drain the water from the tank before you replace the flapper. Shut off the water supply to the toilet, and then flush the toilet to drain the water.

Check The Overflow Tube

You may have too much water filling into the tank . To stop the running toilet you'll need to lower the water levels with the float arms. This is also very easy to do . Loosen or tighten the arms screw until the water lowers. If this doesn't do the trick than you may need to replace the overflow tube itself.

Sometimes you may have to Just shorten the fill tube. Or your supply lines or angle stops in bad position , Replace those
