How to fix water stains

How to remove water stains from your ceiling?

Can you fix the water stains on my ceiling?

Why, yes we can.  Firstly we want to inspect the area and make sure whatever it is that caused the stain is no longer the issue. Most water stains appear after a pipe leak ,roof leak or some kind of leak. If the leak has been detected and fixed we definitely can move on to the next step. Determining if there is mold present. If there is no mold present then we are ready to go .

The next step is to clean the area.

We typically use a TSP (tri-sodium phosphate)  which is a great cleaner and de-greaser for painting projects once cleaned of all debris , dust and etc would make it a lot better from primer and paint to adhere properly. If not than your begging for trouble. Once the Sealer (primer) is applied and drying it'll begin to crumble off if not stick at all.

Next, Seal the water stain.

This next step is pretty self explanatory. You have to seal (prime)it .  You can use any stain blocking primer. For example: you can use zinzer stain blocker, kilz primer ,Sherwin-Williams pro block.  For small repairs we recommend using the kilz  or zinzer aerosol spray can , which could be found at your local paint and hardware stores nearby , home depot carries alot of them .  Whether you have a textured or smooth ceiling you can use either latex or an oil based product

Applying the primer.

.Using the spray can make it a lot easier to apply . Can primer works as well .However a lot messier.Be prepared to spend 30 minutes cleaning your tools right after. Once fully dry It's ready to topcoat . Some  come colored with an aged flat look.Depending  what shade your ceiling is you may get away with using just  primer ( especially for really small repairs). Make  sure to apply 2 coats.  You can repaint  the same color it was previously to blend in ,Or you can decide to repaint the entire ceiling a different color. Due to putting new paint over old it doesn't blend well .leaving you no choice but to redo the entire ceiling . Either way it is always to your preference. Whether you have a textured or smooth ceiling

In conclusion.
